others tools can doing replication with sql 2000?
Just doing research on this topic, how many other tools can doing
replication with sql 2000?
What i mean is that i setup replication in my sql 2000 , then other
tools can download database throught by interent .
Thanks
Nick
I'm not exactly sure what you mean.
You can replicate to SQL Server or MSDE databases over the internet.
You can pull the scriptions using a t sql script, using the ActiveX
object, or using WSM - Windows Synchronization Manager.

new versions) a big flaw. You cannot rename tables or many other objects. I
was told by support a year or more ago that you have to drop the object and
recrete it. I've stuck with EM for 2 reasons. The renaming issue and the
cost of db workbench. Just too much for me to deal with right now ($750 for
2 copies w/MS SQL module is a lot espeically when the other mods are so much
cheaper). I have 2 questions. Does the new version of db workbench allow you
to rename things? Are there other tools out there that are worth looking at
that are under $200 US? I reallly like the ability to edit or view blob type
data in db workbench, the code editor is lightyears ahead of EM and the fact
that the triggers are in the tree on the left is a big plus (never could
figure out why they are not shown in EM - sorta dumb). Oh and the test data
generator is a big plus as well (except that you can only add new rows with
it - it woudl be nice if you could add data to existing rows if new columns
have been added to a table - really surprised you can't do that).
Thanks,
Keith

|||Thanks for the info Greg. I checked out TOAD and from what I could see it
seems too clunky and not much better than (and in some ways not as good as)
MS SQL EM. So I ended up getting a couple copies of DB Workbench by Upscene
after all. I like it very much. It's got a very nice and intuitive interface
and lots of cool features with more coming along soon. They're also very
willing to listen to suggestions for new features in upcoming releases. I
highly recommend it.

query analyzer a lot and am not crazy about EM or SQL Workbench (or whatever
it is called these days).
What does this community use when you are not using QA, EM or Workbench? I
like to type in T-SQL rather than be using the GUI (but that doesn't mean I
want to use isql/osql :-)
I use QA almost exclusively, and will probably use SQL Server Management
Studio (formally known as SQL Workbench) in SQL Server 2005 exclusively.
I'm happy with both.

|||I think Management Studio (the IDE formerly known as SQL WorkBench) is going
to turn out very useful, albeit missing features that some users are willing
to bypass upgrading for (e.g. open table). Here are some alternative
management tools you can investigate:

You might want to take a look at our Database Workbench -
works with MSDE, 7 and 2000 as well as some other database
engines.
It has GUI tools for table-editting, but no diagramming tools.
In two weeks, we will be releasing a new version with new features
and many GUI improvements.
Check it out at www.upscene.com

OT Question: SQL2005 Management Tools?
Although this question is unrelated to Linq, but since everyone here uses SQL2005, I thought it's a good place to ask.
I need a light weight management tool for creating database, tables, fields, indexes and FK. A tool that is easy to use, to view fields and quick to add fields one after another. The SQL Management Studio is great, but I like to have something on the side for quick changes.
I looked around and the few that I found are bigger and more cumbersome than SQL Studio.
Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance!
Hi Ben,
You have a number of options.
Server Explorer within Visual Studio can manage your database - quick and easy.
SQL Server Management Studio Express (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=C243A5AE-4BD1-4E3D-94B8-5A0F62BF7796&displaylang=en). Cut down version aimed at SQL Server Express, this could be your best bet.
SQLCMD - Do everything via the command line ![]()
I've heard that Joe Albahari's LinqPad can be used to manage databases and is very lightweight. But I think it can only replace SSMS if you can write the SQL ![]()
http://www.albahari.com/linqpad.html
Also, he has done a query express tool http://www.albahari.com/queryexpress.html
Hope this helps.
Ben

I tried to install the express edition, but it tells me that I already have the full blown version installed and the express can not be installed.
Do you known of any other third party products that are light weight.
Thanks for your reply!
osql will not come up MSDE (sp3) or earlier
c:\program files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\
> osql -E -d CCOP or osql -U sa -P AStrongPassword -d CCOP
[Shared Memory]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.
[Shared Memory]ConnectionOpen (Connect()).
I can start the instance "CCOP" from sqlmangr without any
issue, but when I try to run osql against the database, I
can never get past the startup
-d is the switch for the database name, not the instance name. Use the -S
switch to specify the instance name.
If you are not sure of the instance name, issue a osql -L for a list of SQL
Server instances.
See

for more information on running the osql utility.
